What does the initial consultation involve?
To diagnose and treat you appropriately, I will ask you about your current and past health, your medical history, as well as your daily habits and general wellbeing. As a holistic medicine, Five Element acupuncture addresses your wellbeing as a whole person, not only your symptoms or illnesses. At your first appointment I will carry out some diagnostic checks including taking a pulse reading, checking any tender or problem areas, checking your blood pressure and looking at your tongue. These examinations are relevant whatever your health issues may be, telling me more about the way your individual system works. |
What does treatment involve?
I use fine, sterilised, single-use needles for your treatment. The number of needles is kept to a minimum, and they may be inserted and removed immediately, or left in for a few minutes. Most people notice a tingling or slight dull ache only and find the whole experience very relaxing.
What does it feel like? Does it hurt?
It is normal to feel a mild tingle or dull ache as the needle is inserted and adjusted. Acupuncture needles are so fine that many people don’t even feel them being inserted.
Preparing for your treatment
Please keep make up and scented products to a minimum and wear loose, comfortable clothing.
Please bring a list of the names and dosage of any medications you are taking.

After the treatment
Some people find that they feel more relaxed, even to the point of being quite sleepy, after their first acupuncture treatment. You should be fine to drive, but please consider alternative transportation if your journey is long.
Acupuncture
|
Acupuncture restores, replenishes, and rebalances, working at a deep level to treat the root causes of illness, whilst alleviating your symptoms. Treatment is based on the ancient wisdom that we all have the inherent capacity to heal within us. The needles I use give your body a prompt to activate your natural healing responses.
Through treatment patients are often surprised to find that they feel more balanced and simply feel more like themselves again. Common secondary benefits include improved focus, more resilience to stress, better sleep, and renewed energy. Acupuncture offers a gentle but effective, drug-free way to support your health. It's now one of the most popular forms of complementary medicine in the UK, proving effective for all types of problems from physical pain to mental stress. |
